The gas hydrate autoclaves GHA 200 from PSL Systemtechnik are used to investigate the effectiveness and mode of operation of  kinetic  and  thermodynamic gas hydrate inhibitors , as well as  anti-agglomerates .

The PSL gas hydrate autoclave is the revised and updated version of the standard device for studying the formation of gas hydrates. It offers a wide range of functions in the smallest of spaces. Pipeline conditions are realistically simulated in the gas hydrate autoclave. This means that the effectiveness of hydrate inhibitors can be conveniently and reliably checked and optimized in a pressure range of up to 200 bar (GHA 200).

Pressure-resistant sapphire glass windows in the gas hydrate autoclave enable the use of one or more endoscope cameras that observe the processes in the autoclave. This means that gas hydrate formation can be recorded during the experiment using photos and videos . Up to six autoclaves can be operated simultaneously via one PC . 

The gas hydrate autoclave GHA 200 is equipped with an endoscope camera, which  observes the sample surface from above in the autoclave head .

The overhead stirrer is coupled with a torque pickup . This allows you to draw conclusions about the viscosity based on the change in torque. With the GHA 200, either the overhead stirrer or the camera can be used; it is possible to switch between the camera and the overhead stirrer between experiments.

About the extensivePSL software Hydrate, complex experiments are carried out completely automatically . The software is easy to use and displays the measured values ​​clearly. You can flexibly design a test process using the integrated script editor. The optical monitoring of the tests and the measurement of temperature, pressure and torque offer a wide range of test procedures and analysis options for different requirements.

 

You can take photos and videos both manually and automatically. The test results are protected against power outages by an auto-restart function .

The sapphire glass rocking cell RCS investigates the formation of gas hydrates and the effectiveness and mode of action of kinetic gas hydrate inhibitors (KHI), anti-agglomerants (AA), low-dose gas hydrate inhibitors (LDHI) as well as the influence of various inhibitors in the multiphase mixture in the laboratory. The fully visible test cells are made of sapphire glass.

As a laboratory device, the PSL sapphire glass rocking cell enables observation and measurement options tailored to the investigation of anti-agglomerants. The sapphire glass test cells are pressure-resistant and can be used numerous times in parallel. With the sapphire glass cells designed for pressures of up to 200 bar, it is possible to test inhibitors even under deepwater conditions. Depending on the structure chosen, up to 20 sapphire glass test cells can be used at the same time. The ball transit time measurement is used to check the pumpability of the dispersed gas hydrates in the oil phase. In addition, the ball transit time measurement allows conclusions to be drawn about the change in viscosity of the test mixture.

The newly developed gas hydrate autoclave GHA 350 is equipped with two additional side cameras . The additional cameras allow the behavior of the gas hydrates to be observed during and after formation both in the liquid phase (lower side camera) and directly at the phase boundary (upper side camera).

The autoclaves are equipped with magnetic stirrers as standard to simulate pipeline conditions using stirring bars.

The gas hydrate autoclaves can be easily opened and closed using a specially developed mechanism . An integrated double jacket, temperature and pressure sensor as well as the integrated magnetic stirrer offer complete controlof the experimental procedure. Double seal sets prevent even the slightest leakage and allow long-term tests of up to 30 days and longer. The insulation of the gas hydrate autoclave supports the rapid achievement and temperature stability of the desired test conditions.

Rocking Cell System RC5-Automated hydrate test system for inhibitor screening and compatibility testing.The Rocking Cell uses one of the most stringent condition of the currentlyaccepted methods for research on hydrate inhibitors and influence of corrosion inhibitors. The measuring principleof the rocking cell is based on the steady tilting of cooled, pressurised test cells (rocking cells).

While tilting, a ball inside the camber is steadily rolling over the length of the test chamber, thereby blending the fluid-gas mixture.
The movement of the ball creates strong shear forces and turbulences in the test chamber. Thus, the conditions in pipelines are reproduced. 

For testing the test chambers are filled with a sample fluid (water or other) and a certain amount of inhibitor. The test chambers are cooled down to a given test temperature. Subsequently, the central gas supply is used, to fill each chamber to the individually required pressure of up to 200 bar (2,900 psi).The 5 test chambers are mounted on a movable axis in a closed cooling bath with cooling liquid. Only this axis is tilted during the test. This offers the advantage, that only the test chambers are moved but not the cooling bath itself. 

The Rocking Cell is extendable up to 10 test chambers.
The test chambers are magnetically attached and can thus be easily removed for filling or cleaning.

The compact Rocking Cell requires only a small amount of space and is equipped with an integrated PC.

The measuring principle of the lab instrument Sapphire Rocking Cell is based on the constant tilting (rocking) of tempe-raturecontrolled, pressurized test cells (rocking cells). Tilting the cell causes a ball to roll back and forth through the entire length of the test cell, mixing the enclosed fluid-gas mixture. This ball movement induces strong shear forces and turbulence inside the test cell, simulating pipeline conditions.
